Pune: The BHIM Payments App, developed by NPCI BHIM Services Limited (NBSL), is transforming India’s digital payments ecosystem by combining innovation with simplicity.
Designed to promote financial inclusion, the app supports more than 15 Indian languages, including Marathi, making digital payments accessible to users across urban, rural, and semi-urban regions.
The BHIM Payments App is optimised for low-connectivity areas, ensuring smooth transactions even in weak network zones. Its ad-free and clutter-free design enhances usability across all age groups, further boosting trust and adoption.

Strong Growth in BHIM Payments App Usage
In June 2025, the BHIM Payments App processed 79.58 million transactions worth ₹12,110 crore, reflecting a 212% increase in transaction volume and a 46% rise in value compared to June 2024.
The app also integrates advanced money management tools, enabling users to track, manage, and split expenses with ease.
Evolution of the BHIM Payments App
NPCI BHIM Services Limited (NBSL), incorporated in 2024 as a wholly owned subsidiary of NPCI, introduced the new BHIM Payments App in March 2025. This marks the third major evolution of the platform since it was originally launched in 2016 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Enhanced Features of the BHIM Payments App
- Split Expenses: Users can divide bills for dining, rent, or group purchases directly within the app
- Family Mode: Families can onboard members, track shared expenses, and assign payments, offering a consolidated financial view
- Spends Analytics: A dashboard displays monthly spending patterns and categorises expenses for better budgeting
- Action Needed: A built-in task assistant reminds users of pending bills, low UPI Lite balance, and other key alerts
UPI Circle: Allows primary users to delegate limited payment rights to up to five secondary users, with full transaction transparency and PIN-based approval.
